I once had a belief which I held sacred.
A beautiful faith that God’s right did steal.
It wasn’t ’til after the search to which my faith led,
That my belief wasn’t foreign to another, but real.
I never tired on Fate’s road as her love lent each breath,
But the spark flittered in her eyes from the wind in her heart,
My vanity told me to save this love with the illusion of strength,
And a request of her love as if we would never part,
Regret tempts my soul nightly with images of my loss,
Love hides what love unreturned has a duty to cause,
A man and a woman love, yet can’t understand.
Forever begins in their heart, not with a golden band.
